Hungary VS Ireland: Did Dominik Szoboszlai do Ronaldo’s Crying Celebration and mock him? No, Image is digitally altered.
Ireland defeated Hungary in the World Cup Qualifier match on November 16, 2025. Many social media users posted an image of Hungary’s Dominik Szoboszlai executing a crying celebration, reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo, and mocked him. Cristiano Ronaldo received a red card in the match between Portugal and Ireland on November 13, 2025, for performing the crying gesture. Nonetheless, the image is digitally manipulated, and social media users have used it to tease Dominik Szoboszlai for celebrating too early.
Claim:
On November 16, a X (formerly Twitter) account by the name Premier League Shitposting shared a photo that shows Dominik Szoboszlai performing Ronaldo’s crying celebration after scoring a goal at 37 minutes and 6 seconds. The score visible in the photo shows that Hungary scored two goals and Ireland scored one goal.

A Facebook account in the same name also shared the image on the same day.
Similarly, a Threads account shared the image with the caption,”Dominik Szoboszlai did Ronaldo’s crying celebration after scoring against Ireland. After 90 minutes, Ireland ended Hungary’s hopes of going to the World Cup which left Szoboszlai in tears. Football can be a cruel game.”

Here are the facts:
We performed a reverse image search of the viral image and found that many used the photo to mock Hungary after the defeat against Ireland. We also discovered images of Dominik Szoboszlai’s clown celebration following Hungary’s goal at thirty-seven minutes and six seconds into the match. An X user shared the photo with a caption,”Life comes at you fast.”

We noticed that ESPN FC, the official X account of ESPN, which shares updates on Football, also shared the image on the same day.
Furthermore, we also found a YouTube video from the match showing Dominik Szoboszlai’s clown celebration.
The analysis of the viral photo suggests that Dominik Szoboszlai did a clown celebration instead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s crying celebration, and the viral photo is fake.
