Islamic Prayers Forced up on Students in a Government School in Kerala? No, Here is a Fact-Check

Social media accounts recently shared a video of school students singing “Hasbi Rabbi Jallallah,” an Islamic lullaby, claiming that government schools in Kerala are forcing students to sing Islamic prayers. This comes in the backdrop of the government’s recent directive prohibiting students from singing an RSS song during the inaugural run of the Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express. However, the video is old and actually shows a private school in Kerala

Claim:

A right wing group on Facebook under the name പരിവാർ കൂട്ടായ്മ തൃശൂർ (Parivar Group Thrissur) shared the video on November 9, 2025, with a Malayalam caption that translates to,”If you have a problem with the children singing the RSS song on the train, isn’t it even more of a crime to force children to recite religious prayers in government schools? Honourable Minister of Education.” The post garnered over 1,500 likes, 1,000 shares, and 176 comments..

Another Facebook user shared the video on November 10, suggesting that such activities are being conducted in government schools in Kerala to attract Muslim votes ahead of the upcoming elections, thereby implying that the video is recent. An X user also shared the video on the same day with a similar caption.

Here are the facts:

We performed a reverse image search and found that the same video was viral with a similar communal caption in 2024 and 2022.

This confirms that the video is not recent, and the audio indicates that the students are singing an Islamic lullaby, “Hasbi Rabbi Jallallah,” rather than an Islamic prayer.

Furthermore, we found photos that match several elements seen in the viral video’s keyframes on the website of Ahalia Public School, Ellapully, Palakkad, a private school in Kerala.

Comparison between the viral video’s keyframe and the photo from the school website.

The comparison of the keyframes with the photo on the website revealed that the school in the viral video is Ahalia Public School, Elapully, Palakka.

Subsequently, we found images of students celebrating festivals of other religions on the school’s website.

The analysis of the viral footage indicates that it’s old, and the school seen in it is not a government school, but rather a private school from Palakkad, Kerala. Therefore, the viral claim that government schools in Kerala are forcing Islamic prayers on students is false.

We contacted the school about the viral video, but received no response. This story will be updated as soon as we receive their response.
