Are These “Potholes The Achievements of the LDF”? No. Here Is The Fact Check.
The Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State General Secretary, Anoop Antony Joseph, recently shared a video on the social media platform X (Formerly Twitter), alleging that the video shows a pothole-ridden road during the Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) development rally, dubbed the “Vikasana Yatra.” However, the video shows an LDF foot march held in connection with the upcoming LSG elections. The march took place at Cheruvannur Panchayat in Kozhikode, Kerala. Interestingly, this panchayat is governed by the Congress-led UDF, and the LDF activists participating in the rally were protesting against the poor condition of the local road. The BJP leader’s claim is factually incorrect and therefore misleading.
Claim:
Anoop Antony Joseph, BJP State General Secretary, Kerala, shared the video on X on October 21, 2025, with the caption of the post reads, “Do you know what these Communists in Kerala are proudly marching for? It’s a ‘Vikasana Yatra’ – a rally to showcase the ‘achievements’ of 10 years of CPM rule. And the massive potholes they’re crossing along the way, are those huge ‘achievements’! ” The video showcases individuals struggling to pass through a pothole-filled road during a political rally in Kerala, and the caption alleges that the video shows Vikasna Yatra, a rally that highlights the achievements of the LDF government in the past ten years in Kerala.

The post received around 250,000 views, 11,000 likes, and 3,000 reposts.
Another user on X also shared the video with a similar caption.
Here are the facts:
We analyzed the viral post and noticed that a user quote-posted and shared the original video with a caption suggesting that the video shows the LDF’s foot march against the dilapidated state of the Panchayat road in the UDF ruled Cheruvannur Panchayat in Kozhikode.

The original video does not carry the background music, as in the viral one, and the Malayalam slogans of the protestors against the UDF-ruled Panchayat are clearly audible. The user also shared a poster indicating that the march occurred on October 18 and 19.

Another user quoted the viral post emphasizing that the road against which the march occurred is neither under the Kerala’s Public Works Department (PWD) nor the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and the local body is responsible for it’s maintenance.

We reached out to M. Kunjammad, the Perambra Area Secretary of the CPI(M), and according to him the march shown in the video was part of the campaign organised by the LDF across Kerala. He confirmed that the road shown in the video is from Cheruvannur Panchayat, which is governed by the Congress-led UDF. “Cheruvannur Panchayat is governed by the UDF, and we have been protesting against the poor condition of the local road in that particular ward, which is represented by a Congress member,” explained M. Kunjammad.
We cross-checked his claim too and confirmed the same. The geolocation of the viral video clarified that the video shows the Muipoth – Keezhapayyur Road in Cheruvannur, Kozhikode, Kerala.
The analysis of the viral X post clarifies that although the video is from Kerala, it is not a pointer to the ‘bad governance’ of the LDF lead Kerala Government as alleged by Anoop Antony, the general secretary of the BJP in the State. The claim propagated online is misleading.
