Did someone burned the party card in protest against the declaration of EPEP? No. Here is the fact

A video has surfaced online claiming that people in Kerala are denouncing their membership in the Communist Party of India (CPI) and burning their membership cards. The social media user implies that the video is recent and linked to Kerala’s recent declaration of becoming India’s first state to be free from extreme poverty. However, the video is old, and the viral claim is false.

Claim:

A social media user on X shared a video on November 3, 2025, with the caption: “Inquilab chindhabad. Membership card is burning in poverty-free Kerala. Go and meet the tribal people in Palakkad and Wayanad. You will realise where poverty-free Kerala is. It’s a scam like 100% literacy.” The footage purportedly shows a person burning a Communist Party of India (CPI) membership card while declaring that he and two others are resigning from the party. The accompanying caption suggests that the video is recent and questions Kerala’s claim of having eradicated extreme poverty, calling it fraudulent.

The report states that a former member of the local committee of the Communist Party of India in Pookkottur, Malappuram, Kerala, was seen burning their membership card as a form of protest against what they claimed were treacherous policies implemented by the state government. Additionally, the report suggests that a division within the local committee contributed to the occurrence of this incident. Asianet News also shared the report on YouTube and Instagram.

The examination of the viral video shows that it originates from June 2024 and pertains to a dispute within the CPI local committee in Malappuram, Kerala. As a result, the claim propagated online is false.
