The Condom Script Returns: How Unrelated Visuals Were Falsely Linked to the CJP Protest.

‘Pile of condoms at the protest site’-A decade after similar claims targeted JNU students, the same old smear is back—this time against CJP protesters. OBC traces the viral visuals to Gurugram and Mumbai, not Jantar Mantar.

As questions continue to mount over the police crackdown on the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) July 20 Parliament march, fresh findings have added to the growing scrutiny. An internal CRPF inquiry has reportedly found that a Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel fired seven rounds from a pellet gun during the protest, with five hitting demonstrators. The development comes days after the Union government faced sustained criticism over its handling of the march, amid continuing demands for accountability.

While the Union Government faces criticism for the violent crowd-control tactics used against the protesters, the right-wing social media users have begun circulating a video purportedly showing piles of used condoms abandoned at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar after the protest concluded, alleging that the site was left littered by CJP supporters.

In this report, OBC examines the viral claim and presents facts.

The viral claim

On July 25, the X (formerly Twitter) account @sumit1kalra shared footage, alleging it shows the condition of Jantar Mantar after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) concluded its protest following the resignation of former education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Hindi text on the video suggests that the footage is directly from Jantar Mantar and shows piles of used condoms allegedly left by CJP supporters at the protest site. The Hindi text on the video translates to, “The condition of Jantar Mantar”.

As of July 27, the post had garnered 3,83,300 views, 1,600 likes and 847 reposts.

The post also included a photo, which alone was viewed more than 10,000 times and appears to show a young couple kissing, claiming that the visuals were from the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar.

Responding to the post, a user stated that supporters of CJP were inspired by cockroaches, which spread filth everywhere. Another user said, “Wake up, youth, wake up; otherwise these jihadis will ruin your career. The same people who got the paper leaked are the ones inciting riots and chaos to use you against the government.”

We also found that the same video was shared on other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, with similar captions.

How did we verify?

We analysed the viral video, conducted a reverse image search of its keyframes, and found that it was initially shared on Instagram on July 22, indicating it predates the culmination of the CJP protest.

The text translates to “The condition of Delhi toll”, suggesting that the video was filmed near a highway rather than at Jantar Mantar.

We geolocated the video to the Rewari-Delhi road in Gurugram, Haryana, which is 20 km from Jantar Mantar.

Our analysis of the viral image led us to an X post shared on July 4 that contains a video whose keyframes match the photo shared by @sumit1kalra.

We identified a keyframe showing a large yellow Hindi signboard “वैभवशाली दादर,” which translates to “Magnificent Dadar”.

The signboard is located at Dadar Chowpatty Beach in Mumbai, India, implying that the visuals from Mumbai were shared as Jantar Mantar.

Our investigation found that both the video and the image being circulated as evidence from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar are falsely contextualised. The video was available online days before the protest concluded and was geolocated to the Rewari–Delhi Road in Gurugram, Haryana. The accompanying image was traced to a video recorded at Dadar Chowpatty beach in Mumbai, with no connection to the CJP protest or Jantar Mantar.
