AI Generated Image of players wearing burqa falsely linked to ICC Women’s World Cup
Several social media users recently shared a photo that allegedly shows members of the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team wearing a burqa during the recent Women’s World Cup match between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Guwahati, Assam, on October 10, 2025. However, the viral photo is generated using AI.
Claim:
A user on the social media platform X(formerly Twitter) shared a photo on October 13, 2025, with the caption,“Women’s cricket tournament in Bangladesh(sic).” The post got around 21,200 views.

Another user also shared the image on October 13, with similar captions tagging the official X handle of the Bangladesh Men’s cricket team.
Users from other social media platforms, such as Threads, Facebook, and Youtube, also shared the photo.
Here are the facts:
We noticed that the bottom part of the viral image indicates that Rubya Haider Jhelik and Sharmin Akhter Supta were batting, and the score of Bangladesh was seven for zero wickets. The keyword search using keywords such as “ICC women’s world cup,” “Bangladesh,” and “New Zealand” took us to the official website of the International Cricket Council (ICC), where we examined the highlights of the Bangladesh versus New Zealand match held at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Assam on October 10.
We analyzed the visuals when Bangladesh’s score was seven for zero wickets and found that the players were not wearing burqas. Several news media outlets, such as The Indian Express, BBC, and India Today, also reported on the match, but none of them highlighted anything about players wearing burqa.

Subsequently, we used AI vs Human Image Detector
which clarified that the image is AI-generated.

The analysis of the viral photo suggests that social media users propagated an AI-generated image, which allegedly shows the players of the Bangladesh team wearing burqas during the recent ICC Women’s World Cup match with New Zealand.
